Fire‑district quarterly reports show high medical call volumes; supervisors press for encampment mitigation

Officials briefed the board on quarterly activity across four fire protection districts on Jan. 27 and answered questions about public‑safety risks tied to a Vallejo encampment and combustible debris.

Interim Deputy Chief Tim Booth, representing East Vallejo, said the district handled 130 calls in the last quarter, 96 of them medical and 34 fire‑related. Montezuma reported 61 calls (42 medical), Suisun 85 (52 medical), and Vacaville 150 calls, 70 of them medical.

Supervisors expressed concern about an area near Vallejo described in the meeting as having a single ingress/egress route, many RVs and piles of combustible material. Booth said property owners in the area had piled debris that later caught fire; crews allowed some material to burn in place to avoid hazardous runoff into tidal wetlands. He warned that responders have suffered injuries in the area and urged caution for anyone considering a site visit.

Staff and the board said they have been coordinating with Vallejo City Council, Vallejo Flood and Wastewater, and the county's Street Intervention Outreach Team (SIAT) to develop mitigation and outreach. Supervisor Williams asked for organizational charts and plans for how the three newly formed fire districts would be structured; staff said they would provide those charts and confirmed a long‑term goal of consolidating the districts under a single organizational structure once required steps are completed.
