The City Finance Committee on Jan. 20 approved a personnel reclassification to eliminate the Librarian 3 title and establish Library Supervisor 1, 2 and 3 classifications, reallocating multiple position numbers to the new titles.
The change, recorded under Legistar 91,404, was described by staff as the culmination of a multi-year process. "The position study had been put in in February '23," the library director said, and the request was paused during the city's compensation study. The director said HR returned to the matter in 2025 and staff needed additional time to finalize paperwork before bringing the item forward.
Alder Rivera questioned the delay and asked whether other reclassifications from 2023–24 remain pending; she requested HR follow up in writing on how many reclasses remain in the pipeline. "I couldn't help but notice that this reclass request was originally submitted to HR back in February '23," Rivera said, asking for an accounting of older requests and departmental analyses.
The committee recorded no objection and the chair announced a unanimous vote in favor of the reclassifications. The adopted change reallocates affected employees to newly created supervisor positions; staff did not provide a list of individual employee reallocations during the meeting and said HR could supply more detail later.
