Resident complains about automated leaf-pickup renewal and fees; commissioners promise follow-up

Kathy Glassburn appeared during public comment to dispute an automatic renewal and charge on the county leaf-pickup subscription.

Glassburn said she has subscribed and paid annually in the spring for many years but that her account was charged $185.98 on Jan. 10 without prior notice. She said office staff later informed her that unsubscribing would require a $59 fee. Glassburn told the board the $59 was a meaningful amount to her as a retired person and asked for help retrieving the money.

Commissioners and staff acknowledged multiple complaints about the service, said they had instructed staff to contact the owner and asked for refund assistance, and committed to meet with the owner to resolve the issue. Staff said the county executive assistant and others would follow up and that they would try to recover the $59 for the resident.
