Dearborn public-health director to depart for Detroit post; council thanks him for building a model department

City administration announced at the Jan. 27 meeting that the Director of the Department of Public Health, identified in remarks as Director Abizied, will leave Dearborn to take a director position in Detroit. Council and administrative leaders publicly thanked him for building the department into a nationally recognized model and for advancing 'health in all policies' work across city departments.

Director Abizied gave brief remarks thanking staff and the mayor and described the work as a team effort. Council members said the department’s accomplishments—air monitoring, policy integration and national recognition—reflect the director's leadership and expressed confidence the department will continue the work. The director said he remains available to Dearborn as needed and that the city's model will be shared regionally.
