Village staff provided an overview of ongoing and planned projects, grants and service changes during the municipal manager’s report.
Key infrastructure items: the village received bid documents for Redmond Terrace and Chester Road with a bid opening scheduled for Feb. 14 at 1 p.m.; the manager said the Redmond Terrace and Chester Road work is being funded through OPWC grants and loans and an additional Ohio Department of Transportation grant. The village also received a $1,200,000 SORTA grant for improvements to Gruneridge Way and Springfield Pike; right-of-way acquisitions and sidewalk work are in progress and consultants (CTE) and contractor Alloy are engaged.
Community programs and services: staff will continue planning for a Juneteenth event with Call of Play; Neighborhood Allies (a nonprofit) will provide in-person assistance on Feb. 9 at the Woodlawn Recreation Center for benefit applications, state IDs and mental-health referrals; Tri-State Trails feasibility work (to which the village contributed funds) will include public input in March–April. The village reported awarding a We Thrive grant of $35,000 to continue programs started last year, including swim classes.
Public works and public safety updates: construction on the salt barn is ongoing and temporary storage has been arranged; Flock traffic cameras are awaiting ODOT contract work and local integration; the fire department is reviewing draft contracts and insurance quotes for transport services, and the village acquired a used wheelchair-accessible van that has been inspected and will receive a lift inspection before entering service. The law director drafted a purchase contract for a Grove Avenue lot intended for a community garden, and the Public Works building roof was estimated at approximately $80,000 for replacement pending further bids.
Questions from council touched on gun range operating hours and timing for Leacrest Road work; staff said Leacrest has an OPWC interest-free loan and crew will coordinate sewer infrastructure upgrades with repaving to limit repeat work.
