Fulton County commissioners on Dec. 15 authorized staff to sign a 24-month pilot agreement with TrueRoll, a hosted-audit service, to review homestead deductions and identify potentially improper or duplicate homestead claims.
County staff described the service as a tool to detect “dual homesteads” and other improper homestead deductions that can be pursued for tax recovery. Staff said the pilot requires an initial $5,000 payment and that recovered taxes would be used to offset vendor fees. “What they do is they come in and they do an audit of homestead deductions…if the property in Fulton County is truly not their homestead property, then we can go back 3 years, collect about taxes that were not paid because of the homestead deduction,” staff said.
Commissioners voted to permit the initial TrueRoll agreement to be signed; the motion carried unanimously. Staff said the pilot is intended to test the tool’s effectiveness before considering a longer-term contract.
What happens next: staff will sign the initial agreement and coordinate with county auditing staff to integrate TrueRoll findings into existing homestead auditing processes.
