The Board opened its Jan. 27 session with several recognitions.
Supervisors adopted a resolution acknowledging the Santa Barbara Animal Care Foundation, its board and volunteers for fundraising efforts and support to county animal services; Linda Greco accepted the recognition and thanked volunteers. The resolution noted the foundation has raised approximately $1,000,000 to support animal-care programs.
Later the Board adopted a resolution honoring Lorena Chávez for 29 years of service in county health programs, including work in obstetrics, pediatrics and community clinics; Chávez spoke briefly and thanked mentors and colleagues.
Supervisor Lavanino also presented an update and recognitions tied to the Stand Out veterans event (Oct. 25), noting 427 veterans served, 575 volunteers and broad interagency participation including Vandenberg Space Force personnel; supervisors approved the item unanimously.
