Traffic authority approves 'Melt on Wall Street' street closure and three community races

The Norwalk Traffic Authority approved a full-street closure for a new neighborhood festival and signed off on three community runs during its Jan. 26 meeting.

An organizer described "Melt on Wall Street," a debut event on River Street planned from 1 to 8 p.m. with live music, roughly 20–30 vendors, heated igloos and fire pits cleared with the Fire Department. Staff said the event organizers have coordinated with the police department and legal counsel for liquor service; Chief Walsh (via staff) confirmed the department had reviewed permitting for alcohol at similar prior events. Staff said the event will close River Street for the day and direct attendees to Yankee Doodle Garage; organizers will work with the parking authority on public messaging.

Commissioners also approved a Bunny Run 5K (Pathway Beach; expected 250–350 participants) and a PAWS "Pause Run for the Gold" fundraiser (100–200 participants expected), each modeled on the existing Jingle Bell Run route and coordinated with police for traffic control. Date clarifications were made for one run during staff Q&A. The authority approved all event requests by voice vote.

Next steps: organizers will finalize permits, coordinate parking and police details, and produce public information about closure times and parking instructions.
