Tuscaloosa City Council on Feb. 1 approved multiple disbursements from District 2 improvement funds for the Silver Fox Valentine’s Ball and related community events.
Councilor Howard described the Valentine’s Ball as “an annual event for our seniors 55 and older” to be held Feb. 13 at the McDonough Hughes Center and listed vendors and amounts, including $2,500 for catering and about $775 for decorations. Finance staff showed the district breakdown and said the four items together total about $5,100; the council voted to approve each item by voice vote. Councilor Howard later introduced a separate request to support the Bloody Tuesday organization’s June community events; the council approved that disbursement as well, though a dollar amount was not stated on the record.
Finance staff told the council that one of the line items will temporarily exceed the FY2026 budgeted amount but that a budget revision later on the agenda would compensate. When asked about the remaining balance, councilors and staff confirmed roughly $10,500 would remain in the District 2 fund after the approved disbursements. The council took the approvals by motion and voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the provided transcript.
