Board reviews $1.68M Proviso East court reconstruction and district bathroom upgrades

Facilities staff presented early plans for capital projects across the district, including a reconstruction of Proviso East tennis courts and a districtwide bathroom modernization program.

The facilities presenter said the Proviso East project includes an estimated $1,680,000 reconstruction of the existing courts and a $600,000 alternate to add pickleball and upgraded lighting. Staff recommended perimeter chain‑link fencing and windscreens to support tournaments and practice. On bathrooms, staff described a districtwide approach to replace water and waste lines using a stacked-plumbing strategy to reduce costs and enable accessibility upgrades for wheelchairs.

Board members discussed phasing and cost containment, noting that doing only ceilings and lighting would be less extensive than a full renovation and that accessibility and code compliance drive the scope and cost. No contract awards were made at this meeting; projects remain at the design and permitting stages.

Board members asked staff to return with refined estimates, permit timelines and whether any work requires additional board approval or external permitting prior to spending.
