Lafayette City held a brief meeting in which the governing body approved several routine items, including a set of claims, a special-event request and a banner permit, and heard a public comment praising the street department.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and approval of last week’s minutes by voice vote. Jeremy Deal, city controller, reported the Controller’s Office had reviewed claims totaling $6,890,453.10 and asked the body to approve them; a motion was made and seconded and the claims were approved by voice vote.
Colin Miner, with McAllister Recreation Center, requested permission for a father–daughter dance on Feb. 14, saying the center will run two sessions and add a third carriage on the route around the block of McAlester. The chair called for a motion to approve the special-event request; the motion and second were made and the request passed by voice vote.
The body also approved a banner request around the fountain for an upcoming art fair after a motion, second and voice vote.
During public comment a resident praised the city and the street department for snowplowing after a storm, saying the streets were in very good shape compared with other towns where the resident had lived. With no further business, the chair adjourned the meeting.
