Multiple residents used the public‑comment period to press the council on neighborhood projects, traffic safety and immigration enforcement.
A resident who lives near Furman Park asked whether a proposed storm‑drain/reservoir had been approved and requested clearer notice to neighbors, citing concerns about parking, lighting and traffic in a small residential area; City Manager Bradley said the project has been under study and offered to have the Public Works Director follow up with the speaker. Armando Montez described repeated speeding and an aggressive incident on the 11300 block of Cecilia and requested increased patrols and follow up from traffic staff; council asked staff to connect with the speaker.
Several speakers addressed ICE operations and civil‑rights concerns. A Vietnam War‑era veteran and others urged the council and community to oppose hatred and bigotry and to protect civil‑rights. Michelle Farina and others linked training and tactics used by ICE to foreign military tactics and criticized elected officials for positions related to Israel; speakers called for community organizing such as an "ICE Watch" and for the council to speak publicly on related matters. Speakers also criticized prior local officeholders and requested more accountability from elected officials.
Mayor and council acknowledged the comments, directed staff follow up where appropriate and noted community‑led efforts (Downey Ice Watch) to organize neighborhood alerts and support.
