The Nantucket Select Board on Jan. 26 voted unanimously to continue two public hearings for National Grid to the board's Feb. 9 petition and licensing hearings.
The board's chair opened the meeting at 11 a.m. and said both agenda items were public hearings for National Grid. A board member told the meeting, "National Grid isn't available, due to the storm," and recommended that the hearings be opened and continued to the Feb. 9 session.
After the chair asked for a motion to continue the first public hearing, a motion and a second were placed and the board held a roll-call vote that recorded four "aye" votes and no opposition. The chair then opened the second public hearing and the board again moved, seconded and carried a continuance to Feb. 9 by unanimous roll call.
Following the votes, a motion to adjourn was made, seconded and approved by unanimous roll call. Board members exchanged brief farewells and the meeting ended.
Why it matters: The continuances mean the public hearings on National Grid's matters will take place at the board's next scheduled petition and licensing hearing on Feb. 9, allowing the utility time to participate after missing the Jan. 26 meeting because of a storm. No public testimony or substantive presentations on the National Grid items took place at the Jan. 26 session.
What to watch for: The hearings are scheduled to resume on Feb. 9; any filings, testimony or staff reports submitted before that date will be included in the record for the petition and licensing matters.
