The Passaic City Council on Jan. 26 adopted Ordinance 25-06, an amendment to the Market Street redevelopment plan, following a required public hearing that drew no speakers from the public.
Council President Schier opened the hearing, asked for public comment and, seeing none, closed the public portion before moving the ordinance to a vote. On the roll call the members present voted in favor and the motion passed. The council recorded unanimous support from members in attendance.
City officials framed the amendment as a technical and planning update to the Market Street redevelopment plan introduced to the council on Dec. 16, 2025. No substantive public objections were raised during the hearing; the council proceeded directly to adoption.
The ordinance will be incorporated into the city’s redevelopment plan for the Market Street redevelopment area; council members who spoke praised the evening’s community program and moved on to other agenda items. The council returned to regular business after a brief recess and completed consent and resolutions later in the meeting.
The ordinance adoption followed the city’s public-notice requirements and the council’s in-person meeting procedures. Next steps for the Market Street plan will be administrative implementation and any required coordination with redevelopment consultants and city departments.
