The North East Woodford Water District asked Woodford County Fiscal Court to set the maximum compensation for its commissioners at $6,000 annually, to be paid at $500 per month, citing KRS 74.020(6).
Judge Executive explained the request was essentially a ratification of a compensation level already being paid by the district and asked the court to set the maximum going forward. The clerk confirmed past statements in district financials showed the $6,000 figure.
County Attorney advised the court that it may set a maximum but the district must demonstrate it has funding to pay the compensation; the fiscal court itself does not directly pay the district’s commissioners. Magistrates asked whether the change should be retroactive; County Attorney said the court should generally set it effective immediately and noted the fiscal court probably should not usurp actions taken by a prior fiscal court beyond the start of the current court’s term.
After motion and second, the court voted to ratify the $6,000 annual maximum compensation; the motion carried unanimously.
Next steps: the district may seek retroactive adjustments from the start of the current fiscal court’s term if it wishes, but any additional request must be explained and returned to the court for consideration.
