The Troy Patients Commission on Tuesday reviewed recent community events and outreach and introduced a new staff member.
Commission member S1 reported that the Martin Luther King 'beloved community' event was well attended and "filled my heart," and said about seven people scanned a QR code to join future activities. S1 said Pastor Sheree Brown will lead the beloved community team next year while S1 steps back from leadership but will remain involved.
S1 said the commission is collaborating with Chris Manning and others on a Walking Black History tour and is assembling artifacts for Juneteenth. "The Juneteenth event was awarded a grant for the America 250 from the visitors bureau," S1 said, and the commission expects a three-day celebration that will include concerts and a month-long art display at the Hanner venue. Meetings connected with those planning efforts are usually held at the library or at ITW and are available online, S1 said.
On scheduling, the commission discussed meeting cadence and asked staff to circulate quarterly dates. Taryn Smith introduced herself as the new management analyst in the service and safety director's office, saying she is "replacing Salome" and that members will see her at future meetings.
The commission approved the Nov. 12 meeting minutes by voice vote earlier in the session and set staff follow-up to circulate dates for the next quarterly meeting.
Next steps: staff will send proposed quarterly meeting dates and the commission will continue planning the Walking Black History tour and Juneteenth activities.
