Committee reports bill excluding wind-hardening improvements from residential assessed value

Senator Leake introduced SB 434 and told the committee the bill would exclude from residential assessed value any increase attributable to improvements that increase resistance to wind damage, such as enhanced roof deck attachments, secondary water barriers, wind-resistant shingles, gable-end bracing, and storm shutters. The sponsor said property appraisers brought the issue to his attention and that the measure removes a penalty for homeowners who invest to make homes more resilient.

No appearance forms were filed in opposition and no committee debate materialized; Senator Leake waived close. The clerk called the roll and the committee reported Senate Bill 434 favorably.
