Hawthorne Board honors educators, announces inaugural athletic hall of fame

The Hawthorne Board of Education used its January meeting to honor educators districtwide and to announce the district’s first athletic hall of fame. Board and district leaders recognized school-level Governor’s Educator of the Year honorees from Hawthorne High School, Lincoln Middle School, Washington Elementary and others and invited recipients forward for presentation and photographs.

Superintendent (unnamed) opened the event noting his pride in the district’s staff and community, saying he was “incredibly proud of the work taking place across the Hawthorne School District” and that “we have an amazing community and an excellent school system.” The board formally read a resolution observing January 2026 as School Board Recognition Month and thanked members for their volunteer service.

After the awards, a representative of the Hawthorne High School Athletic Hall of Fame outlined the inaugural class of 2026, listing inductees across athletes, coaches and contributors and announcing a dinner scheduled for March 26 at the Brownstone starting at 6:30 p.m. The hall of fame committee said it will circulate ticket and ad-book information through school and social media channels.

Board members and attendees congratulated honorees and praised the variety of staff roles recognized, from classroom teachers to paraprofessionals and behavior specialists. The meeting’s recognition segment closed with group photos and the board recessed briefly to accommodate honorees.
