COG urged mayors to volunteer for Code Blue warming centers and the Point-in-Time homeless count

County staff and program leads briefed the council on Code Blue activations, warming-center operations and the upcoming Point-in-Time count and asked for volunteer participation.

Staff described the Code Blue/warming-center shift schedule (three shifts covering overnight hours) and said volunteers and city officials are needed to staff the warming center during activations. They reported that hundreds of volunteers are signed up for the broader program and urged elected officials to take at least a single shift for the Point-in-Time count, which will run Thursday through Saturday mornings during early hours.

Staff offered operational support, including bus passes to help individuals reach services, and asked member cities to publicize Code Blue activations to encourage volunteer turnout. They also asked mayors to consider attending or observing shifts to better understand homelessness conditions in their communities.

Next steps: staff to circulate sign-up links, provide bus passes on request, and coordinate the Point-in-Time count volunteer roster.
