During member reports, the chair of the budget committee said the township has entered budget season and that employees have faced repeated health-insurance and prescription-premium increases "of over 15 year over year," which will shape departmental budget reviews.
Committee member Ravitz read a prepared statement criticizing perceived overreach by federal immigration enforcement and urging support for vulnerable residents. He said the township had earlier adopted a proclamation affirming Morris Township as a "fair and welcoming community" and read that proclamation into the public record. Ravitz said the proclamation "isn't merely symbolic" and urged residents to "help to build the country you want for your children and your grandchildren."
Other committee members thanked organizers of Martin Luther King Day events and reminded residents about an upcoming special election on Feb. 5. The committee did not take action related to the immigration-enforcement remarks at the Jan. 21 meeting.
