Webster Groves outlines expanded summer programs, partnerships for care and reading supports

District staff described notable growth and expanded offerings in Webster Groves' summer school program, including new sites, partnerships for before- and after-care, and targeted reading supports.

Tina Clark Scott, who has led the summer program for several years, said the district will offer summer programs at multiple elementary sites (Ambrose; Bristol and Givens/Avery/Hudson depending on the program), middle-school and high-school offerings, and two sessions of Jump Start (J2K) for incoming kindergartners. "We had close to 600 elementary students in summer school over the past 2 years," she said, noting growth in enrollment and staff interest.

Celebrate Reading will run after the C program at two elementary sites for invited students in grades 1–5, and Right at School will handle before- and after-care. Tina Clark Scott said the district accommodated every parent who enrolled in elementary summer school last year and expects to do so again; the one persistent capacity constraint is high-school PE courses, which draw strong demand and have limited slots.

Board members asked about locations for J2K sessions (both elementary sites) and whether the district will expand PE offerings; staff said expansion is possible but has financial implications for staffing. The district also partners with Freedom Schools to create additional summer opportunities for Webster students.

Administrators said they will continue to monitor demand and consider adjustments to offerings where financially and logistically feasible.
