House introduces bills on virtual-currency kiosks, money transmission, public health and tobacco tax

Clerks announced the introduction of several bills on the House floor on Jan. 21 and referred them to committee for consideration. Representative Aragon introduced House Bill 5469, a proposal to regulate virtual-currency kiosk operators. Representative McFall introduced House Bill 5470, a bill to amend the Money Transmission Services Act. Representative Roth introduced House Bill 5471, proposing amendments to the Public Health Code. Additional bills—including a proposed change to the Tobacco Products Tax Act (HB 5472) and another Public Health Code bill—were introduced and referred to the committees identified on the floor.

The clerk read the short titles and assigned the bills to the committees indicated (regulatory reform, government operations, health policy). No floor debate or vote occurred on these introductions during the session; they were placed in committee for further review.

Next steps: Sponsors will pursue committee hearings, possible amendments, and votes in committee before the bills return to the full House.
