Michigan House fails to reach quorum, adjourns until Jan. 28, 2026

The Michigan House convened but did not have enough members present to conduct business, and the presiding officer adjourned the chamber until Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., the clerk announced.

Speaker 2 told the chamber, "Mister speaker, a quorum of the house is not present," and routine attendance procedures — opening the board for check-in and tallying attendance — followed but did not result in a quorum. Earlier in the brief session Speaker 1 called the meeting to order and instructed the clerk to open the board and allow members to check into their desks.

The meeting included several procedural announcements by the clerk, including notification that a set of House bills had been reproduced and posted electronically and that multiple committee meetings were scheduled for Jan. 28. With no quorum present, the presiding officer closed proceedings and the clerk announced the House would stand adjourned until the stated date and time.

No formal votes or floor debates occurred before adjournment. The clerk also read an item received from the Michigan Strategic Fund concerning a notification request related to site readiness grant activity for the Detroit Regional Partnership; that notice was entered into the record but was not acted on during the session.
