Geary County approves exchange-of-services agreement with Junction City for jail and dispatch

After a presentation from county staff and the sheriff about a negotiated exchange-of-services agreement, commissioners voted to accept terms that continue an operational swap with Junction City: Junction City will continue to use Junction City dispatch services for unincorporated areas and the Geary County Detention Center will continue to house city prisoners for municipal court cases. Staff said the agreement was negotiated to simplify operations and avoid a monetary transfer; the county and city will not exchange money under the new arrangement.

Sheriff Nate Beckman told the commission he had prioritized the intergovernmental negotiations to find a long-term, cost-saving arrangement and that the agreement reflects input from both municipal and county command staff. Commissioners praised the renewed cooperation and approved the agreement by voice vote; staff will finalize date corrections on the signature page and circulate the fully executed document.
