Sheriff Nate Beckman presented the departmentiweekly report, summarizing operations and service metrics for the prior two weeks. His briefing included the following figures: average jail population 93; 8 accidents; 55 citations issued; 14 arrests; 2 DUIs; 153 traffic stops; 405 primary calls and 92 miscellaneous calls. He also listed 55 citations served and 129 papers served.
Beckman explained fleet pressures: several county vehicles are high-mileage or in for major repairs and—because outfitting (lights, radios, computers) is handled by a limited number of vendors—vehicles sometimes sit in inventory waiting months to be equipped. He said David (fleet lead) will present a detailed asset-by-asset worksheet and cost estimates to the commission so they can weigh buying new vehicles versus outfitting existing ones.
The sheriff credited recent scheduling and staffing changes for a large reduction in overtime costs (finance staff estimated savings on the order of several hundred thousand dollars last year). He invited commissioners to review a forthcoming presentation of overtime trends and the planned vehicle-replacement timeline.
Beckman also noted ongoing interagency cooperation with Junction City and related work to finalize the exchange-of-services agreement approved that day.
