Madison Heights City Council on Jan. 26 approved a resolution to participate in a construction funding agreement with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for the rehabilitation of John R. Road between 11 Mile and Dartmouth.
Director of Public Services reported that the FY26 budget contains accumulated funding and that MDOT requires a council resolution to participate in the federally funded project. The staff report referenced an engineer's estimate of $2,895,700 and stated the city's estimated share at approximately $1,541,151 (the staff and council discussion used similar figures). "We have this is 11 mile to Dartmouth... every step is a step in the right direction," one councilmember said after moving the resolution to approve participation and to authorize the mayor and city clerk to sign Contract 25-5600 on the city's behalf.
Councilmembers celebrated the approval while cautioning that construction will require patience from residents during work periods. The motion carried by voice vote.
Clarifying details: the staff presentation identified Contract 25-5600 (also noted in the meeting as 25Dash5600/25Dash5600) and gave the engineer's estimate; staff said bids came in under the budgeted amount and requested authorization for mayoral and clerk signature for execution.
