Resident urges Romulus to prioritize housing after reporting hazardous conditions at mobile‑home park

During the public‑comment portion of the Jan. 26 meeting, resident Diane Carol Roy urged the Romulus City Council to prioritize safe, affordable housing and described health and safety problems at West Village Estates, a mobile home park run by Sun Communities.

Roy said one resident, identified in the discussion as Sonara Johnson, experienced plumbing and floor rot and had sewage beneath her home that required reconnection. She described the situation as "horrible" and said that, without additional housing options or assistance, the resident was effectively stuck despite a GoFundMe established to help. She told council, “I just wanna highlight the importance of housing in Romulus. I think every person in Romulus deserves access to safe, affordable housing.”

Council responded by thanking the speaker and committing to continued conversations: the chair said the speaker’s concerns were not forgotten, and the mayor reported he had discussed the matter with legislators and would continue follow-up.
