After adopting procedural rules and committee appointments, senators used the floor to announce meeting times and logistics for the work ahead.
Senator Deber announced the Senate Employment Committee would meet in about five minutes in the Senate Conference Room to review session employees and whether they should be paid for this session. Senator Beckettall announced the Joint Appropriations Committee hearings will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Brunhilde Haugen Room; Senator Lee announced the Joint Policy Committee will meet in the Pioneer Room at 10:30 a.m. The Senate secretary also announced that the Highway Patrol will provide a brief presentation on legislator safety issues at 11 a.m. today and tomorrow in the Roughrider Room and recommended attendance.
Senator Hogue told members the Senate would not reconvene at 4 p.m. as the tentative agenda suggested; joint committees would continue their work and majority caucus members should check email for caucus timing. Senator Klein moved that an absent member be excused; the motion was seconded and adopted by voice vote. Klein then moved that the Senate stand in recess at the conclusion of certain orders of business to reconvene with the House for a joint session at 10 a.m., and that the Senate adjourn until 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, 2026; the motion carried and the Senate stood adjourned.
