Council agrees to $3,000 weeklong rental and waived fees for Southeastern Utah Dream Livestock Show

The Castle Dale City Council voted Jan. 8 to let the Southeastern Utah Dream Livestock Show use the fairgrounds for a week under negotiated terms: a $3,000 fee for the entire week, waived regular facility fees, and expectation that organizers supply restroom cleaning and trash services.

Kaylee Morris (Speaker 7) represented the show, explaining prior arrangements with a neighboring city and the need to reserve barns while a third barn on the complex is completed. Council members and organizers discussed costs from previous years, including spikes in electricity (an example $600 increase) and roughly $6,800 total cost in a prior year, and the labor required for setup and teardown. Staff and council sought to minimize city budget exposure while preserving the event.

Speaker 1 moved the negotiated terms—charging $3,000 for the week, waiving fees, and expecting the show to provide restroom and garbage staffing—Speaker 1 seconded, and the council approved on a roll call.

Council asked the arena committee to produce updated, itemized cost estimates and to review waiver rates so that future events better reflect actual staffing and maintenance expenses.
