Dan, a city staff presenter, provided the council with an initial draft of roadway cross sections intended for new subdivisions. He said the proposed standards address pavement widths, curb and sidewalk requirements and utility locations and are meant to give a consistent standard for developers to follow in new development.
Dan cautioned that the draft standards are primarily for new subdivisions and will not immediately apply to older sections of town; staff said they are working on separate cross sections for the historic parts of Eureka where curb and sidewalk installation is not always feasible. He said once the city finalizes standards and packages them, the council will consider adoption at a future meeting and then could hold developers to the standard at the time of property improvements.
Council members thanked Dan for the draft and said they would review the materials before a future vote to adopt standards.
