The North Logan City Council unanimously approved a change to the city’s master fee schedule on Jan. 21, adding a cash-payment rounding policy to accommodate declining penny availability.
Alan (city staff) explained staff developed the proposal after reviewing how other cities and private-sector businesses handle cash rounding and at the encouragement of state guidance. The procedure would be appended to the online master fee schedule and governs how cash transactions are rounded when pennies are not available.
The council opened a public hearing and read the standard instructions for speakers; no members of the public spoke. After closing the hearing, a council member moved to approve the master fee schedule change and Resolution 206-1; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously by voice vote.
The change was presented as an administrative update to formalize an existing practice and to make the procedure part of the official fee schedule so businesses and residents can view the policy online. Staff said the change was not intended to affect electronic payments, which continue to be processed at exact amounts.
Staff will finalize the fee-schedule page and post the rounding policy as an added page to the master fee schedule online.
