North Logan’s police chief reported a rise in priority calls during the weekly public-safety update at the Jan. 21 city council meeting and invited council members to participate in officer ride-alongs.
The chief reported the department handled about 100 calls during the previous week: roughly 69 non-priority calls and 35 priority calls. He highlighted that the department recorded five aggravated-assault cases in 2025 and said the city has already recorded five aggravated assaults so far this year, signaling an early-year increase in the most serious call types.
The chief described priority calls as incidents requiring more officer time, investigation and follow-up. He also noted the department was investigating a sextortion/online-pornography matter reported by the Attorney General’s office, several domestic incidents, medical emergencies and traffic accidents.
To help council understand policing workloads and response types, the chief invited members to schedule ride-alongs tied to months during which they prepare the city newsletter; he said ride-alongs would typically last two to three hours, though they may run longer depending on incidents encountered.
Council members expressed interest in participating. The chief also said he will provide schedule coordination for members who accept the offer.
