Senate advances 4-year extension for Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability

The Senate Government Operations Committee voted unanimously to advance SB1550, which extends the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability for four years.

Chairman Jackson introduced the bill and Commissioner Brad Turner summarized the commission's role as an advocate for older adults and people with disabilities. Turner said multiple local voices have informed the department's understanding of needs and that the commission has been a partner in efforts to help constituents live independently.

Committee members thanked commission staff for their advocacy and service. The motion to move SB1550 to the calendar passed by unanimous voice vote; no changes to funding or statutory duties were made in committee testimony.

The bill will proceed to the full Senate calendar for consideration.
