Fredericksburg council adopts resolution opposing nearby Marshall Springs battery site

A council member introduced and read a resolution formally opposing the proposed Marshall Springs lithium battery storage site, citing potential fire-safety risks, complex hazardous-incident responses, and possible impacts to groundwater. The presenter referenced prior litigation around Gillespie County sites and a judge's order pausing construction until county drainage and floodplain compliance is demonstrated.

Council and members of the public (including George Studer) urged a formal risk assessment and asked staff to work with emergency services to document likely impacts and mitigation needs. The resolution directs the city manager and city attorney to notify the state representative and senator, the companies involved and the county commissioner's court about the city's formal opposition and to seek relocation or further review of the proposed site.

Council approved the resolution by voice vote. Staff said they will pursue the communication steps directed by the resolution and coordinate with emergency-response agencies on a risk assessment as requested by council members.
