Superintendent briefed board on vacancies, trainings and community donations

During the Nov. 16 meeting the superintendent's report covered staffing levels, recruitment activities, staff trainings and community outreach.

The report listed 78 sworn vacancies and 12 civilian vacancies (90 total) against 433 authorized positions. Human-resources staff attended several recruitment events in October and November 2022, including an Oct. 28 law-enforcement/jail fair in Richmond and a veterans job fair at FedEx Field on Nov. 10.

Staff highlighted training outcomes: 36 employees completed supervisor in-service, 11 attended a new-supervisor training and three completed crisis-intervention training, bringing the ADC to roughly 100 CIT-certified staff. A Spanish-speaking GED instructor was hired, and the facility reported a recent GED graduation.

Community programs were emphasized: the ADC employee association ran an October donation drive that provided clothing, books and completed 'boxes of basics' (weekly distribution capacity up to 50 boxes) to children across Prince William County and Manassas via community partners. Staff also noted ongoing programming opportunities for inmates including GED, religious services and workforce/reentry classes.
