Board accepts Woodbridge supervisor Margaret A. Franklin’s resignation and asks county attorney to seek writ for special election

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors accepted the resignation of Margaret A. Franklin from the office of Woodbridge Magisterial District effective 6 p.m. on Jan. 19, 2026.

At the conclusion of a closed session on legal matters, Supervisor Bailey moved to accept the resignation and to authorize the county attorney to notify the court and petition the circuit court to issue a writ for a special election to fill the vacancy. The motion was seconded, put to a vote and approved unanimously.

The board certified the closed session prior to taking the action. County staff will proceed with the procedural steps to secure the writ and schedule a special election in accordance with applicable Virginia election law and county procedures.
