Subcommittee clears technical and procedural higher-education bills for full committee

The Senate Higher Education Subcommittee cleared a set of technical and procedural bills and recommended them to the full committee.

SB 91: Sponsor Senator Lucas described SB 91 as a technical update to the Code of Virginia to reflect Old Dominion University's integration with Eastern Virginia Medical School and the institution's new recognition as a health science center. The subcommittee moved and seconded the bill for reporting to the full committee.

SB 231: Senator Head introduced SB 231, a Section 1 bill directing the State Board for Community Colleges to develop a funding model that emphasizes career and technical education and support for low-income students, and to report back by Nov. 1. The subcommittee recommended SB 231 for reporting.

SB 242: Senator Head also described SB 242 as a codification of the Roanoke higher education authority's current membership, noting Old Dominion University and the University of Virginia are no longer members and that Appalachia College of Pharmacy was added.
