The Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee adopted Finance Amendment No. 1 to Senate Bill 1069 on Jan. 20 and voted to recommend the amended bill to the committee calendar for passage.
Senator Pote, sponsor of SB 1069, told the committee the bill "creates an exemption for 1 particular auto auction ... at the Nashville Speedway in Wilson County," and confirmed the proposed amendment updates the effective date to 2026. The amendment was moved ("moved by leaders") and seconded by Senator Hensley, and the committee adopted the amendment by voice and roll-call vote.
After debate, the clerk conducted a roll-call vote. Senators recorded as voting "Aye" included Senator Hale, Senator Hensley, Senator Johnson, Senator Lamar, Senator Rose, Senator Walley/Wally, Senator Yager, Senator Yarbrough and Chairman Watson; the clerk announced 11 ayes and the amendment was adopted. Chair announced SB 1069, as amended, "is recommended to the committee on a calendar for passage."
An unidentified senator (Speaker 4) praised the auctions during discussion, saying the events "bring in people from all over the country, thousands and thousands of people" and called the measure positive for revenue, tourism and Wilson County.
The committee did not take further action on other bills at this meeting. The next procedural step for SB 1069 is placement on the calendar, where it will be scheduled for floor consideration.
