The University of Pittsburgh Board of Trustees adopted a resolution of appreciation on Nov. 12 honoring John P. Elliott, who joined the university's internal audit department in 1992 and served as director of internal audit since 1995. Trustee John Maher introduced the resolution, which credited Elliott with strengthening internal controls, supporting the board and committees, leading the department through a five-year quality assurance external review with a top rating, and guiding Sarbanes-Oxley-era improvements to financial reporting controls.
The resolution notes Elliott's service as a liaison to multiple board committees and cited multiple institutional contributions, including chairing NCAA self-study and other task forces. The board approved the resolution by voice vote, invited Elliott to join the chancellor at the front of the room and offered applause and thanks for his service. No dissent was recorded in the meeting transcript.
The board also took a moment to acknowledge the Nov. 21 passing of long-serving Provost Jim Marr, asking for a moment of silence before adjourning.
