Midway police introduce new K‑9 'Ben' and rollout updated patch and vehicle livery

Midway police introduced their new K‑9, Ben, and his handler, Officer Jesse Bell, during the council meeting. Chief Severs displayed an updated department patch featuring an American‑flag background and staff noted an ongoing vehicle rebrand: the department will deploy eight new vehicles this year with a black livery and an American‑flag motif on the rear windows.

Officer Bell was identified as the first K‑9 handler in about 15 years; the dog is certified in drug detection and staff said Ben will later seek patrol certification. Staff said the department values community engagement and will coordinate demonstrations and outreach as the K‑9 program and vehicle roll‑out continue.

Council thanked officers and staff for the update and for the new resources to support public safety.
