Local speaker urges Duchesne County to begin meetings with prayer and promote national 'America Praise' program

Jenny Thompson, representing an organization she identified as Citizens Promoting Correct Principles, asked Duchesne County commissioners on Dec. 8 to participate in and promote "America Praise," a national prayer initiative tied to the nation's 250th anniversary. She distributed flyers describing the program and recited historical quotes in support of public prayer.

Thompson asked the county to consider beginning commission meetings with prayer and to publicly mark the July 4 anniversary. "If we bring religion back stronger, you're going to see everything get better and better," she read from a recent presidential remark included on the White House website materials she referenced. Commissioners responded with thanks; one said they appreciated the presentation and another noted the county is planning a local celebration for the 250th anniversary.

No motion was made and no formal policy change was adopted; the presentation was received as public comment. Commissioners expressed personal support for the speaker's message but did not direct staff to draft an invocation policy or change meeting procedure at that time.
