Council approves timber-sales disbursement to volunteer fire departments

The county reported timber sales receipts of $34,603.81 from Jan. 6, 2026, and members discussed statutory distribution rules under House Bill 1424. After brief discussion commissioners agreed to distribute a higher share to the volunteer fire departments rather than the statutory minimum and approved a motion to disburse roughly $2,004.71 per listed recipient, including Anderson Township VFD, Cantleton, Central Perry, Troy Volunteer Fire Department, Roan Volunteer Fire Department and Perry County EMA of Fire Rescue. The motion passed 6-0.
