The Cass County commissioners took an EMS building remodel recommendation under advisement and approved hiring a fully funded educator for the paramedic program.
EMS representative Brady Wiles reported an RFP produced four bids and that an internal EMS committee and the EMS board both recommended Steinberger Construction for the remodel work. Wiles asked for permission to enter contract negotiations and to select Steinberger Construction.
The commission voted to take the building information under advisement and asked for additional details to be provided to the board before any final contract action. "We had an internal committee within EMS that gave the recommendation to the EMS board, to proceed with Steinberg Construction," Wiles said, and noted the EMS board concurred.
Later in the meeting, Wiles said an educator position for the paramedic program was budgeted and fully funded for 2026 from program fees; the board moved and approved filling that full-time, budgeted position.
Recorded next steps include staff providing the EMS remodel proposal hard copies to commissioners for review and negotiating contract terms if the board later approves proceeding.
