Hallandale Beach proclaims Principal Paula Peters after a one-year turnaround at Hallandale Magnet High School

The Hallandale Beach City Commission read and adopted a proclamation honoring Principal Paula Peters of Hallandale Magnet High School during its meeting.

The proclamation, presented by Speaker 1 on behalf of the commission, credited Peters with more than 20 years of educational experience and said she made it her mission ‘‘to ensure that every student who walks into campus receives a meaningful education.’’ The proclamation said the school improved from a longstanding C to a B in one year and highlighted new career-oriented programs — EMT, aviation and automotive — and initiatives such as ‘‘stamina day’’ and ‘‘chat-and-chew’’ sessions to strengthen instructional practice.

Speaker 1 closed the proclamation by saying the recognition was made ‘‘on behalf of this entire city commission’’ and noted the proclamation’s effective date as December 17 (as read during the meeting).

Principal Paula Peters accepted the honor and thanked students, staff and the community. Peters said she stepped into classroom roles while the school was short-staffed and described a hands-on approach to leadership: "When we were short teachers, I stepped in and taught classes," she told the commission. She emphasized the school’s diversity and the importance of social-emotional supports alongside academic goals and said current data ‘‘looks great’’ and students are continuing to work hard.

Community members and other officials offered congratulations. A member of the school advisory community thanked Peters for the work seen at monthly SAC meetings and praised the teachers and administrative team.

No formal action beyond the proclamation was taken; the commission moved on to its regular agenda after the remarks.
