At its Jan. 15 meeting, the Sweet Home Planning Commission heard staff updates about staffing and local development activity and was informed that two forthcoming conditional use hearings had been withdrawn.
Planning staff introduced a new associate planner, Ray, and noted an engineering technician joined the department in December, bringing the Community and Economic Development Department to full staffing for the first time in months. Staff said they expect to see more permit activity as weather improves and noted recent interest in duplex divisions under House Bill 458, which allows a duplex to be divided into separate ownership.
The commission formally opened hearings for CU25-03 and CU25-04 but staff said the applicant contacted the department to withdraw both conditional use applications and requested they not be heard; the commission closed those hearings with no testimony and no action.
Commissioners discussed whether to elect a chair and vice chair in January or wait until the commission is at full membership; they agreed to wait until more members are present.
Staff did not provide dollar amounts for projects or specific developer names for potential multifamily activity; permits for potential multifamily projects had not been submitted at the time of the meeting.
