The council approved a third amendment to the Town’s existing master services agreement with Axon Enterprise Inc. to secure additional body-worn cameras, spares and cloud services for the Castle Rock Police Department.
Chief Colli said the department implemented body-worn cameras in 2016 and that recent staffing increases created a shortfall of 23 cameras; this amendment provides the cameras and the public-safety software package. The total cost of the amendment is $673,778, with the initial payment due in February (about $19,738) and scheduled payments through July 2030 continuing thereafter.
Chief Colli noted the contract package includes camera replacement every 2.5 years and Taser replacement every five years as part of the public safety package. Mayor Pro Tem Kavey recused herself from the vote, citing employment with Verizon. The council approved the amendment 6-0 (with one recusal). Chief Colli said staff may return for additional cameras if staffing increases further.
The amendment funds and payment schedule are expected to be covered in the town’s multi-year budget plan and will be monitored as staffing changes.
