Greene County clerk warns DMV offices will close Feb. 13–17 for statewide system upgrade

County Clerk Marilyn Farrell told the Greene County Legislature that the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will perform a multiday systems upgrade that will interrupt all county DMV operations. Farrell said the Catskill DMV office at 411 Main Street will close at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13 to clear staff and prepare for the statewide migration and will remain closed through Monday, Feb. 16 and Tuesday, Feb. 17, with a planned reopening on Wednesday, Feb. 18 if the state gives the go‑ahead.

"To bring the first part of the new system online, the state is seizing all county and state DMV operations, including online and phone systems at 2PM on Friday, 02/13/2026," Farrell said, adding that "no DMV transactions will be able to be completed during this period, including through the state website, and they will not be answering their phones." She said Greene County intends to open at noon on Feb. 18 to allow staff to test the new system before serving the public.

During questions from legislators, Farrell and other officials clarified that the state will be migrating license and transaction data to a new platform and is not physically removing county computers. She and colleagues said the first phase applies to driver licenses; vehicle registration will come in a later phase.

Farrell asked residents for patience during the transition and said the county will post signs at office entrances and provide updated hours once the state confirms the migration is complete. The announcement followed news statewide about the DMV modernization and was made during the government operations portion of the meeting.
