Commissioners adopt standardized appointment letter and approve multiple board appointments including opioid settlement work group nominees

The Morgan County commissioners voted to adopt a standardized appointment letter to be sent to citizens appointed to county boards and committees. Administrator Kyle said the letter is intended to clarify expectations about responsibilities, meeting times and contact information for appointees; commissioners approved the letter unanimously.

Following adoption of the letter, the commission considered a slate of appointments and reappointments across multiple advisory and public boards. Nominations approved included Susan Fries to the Board of Zoning Appeals; Jenny Brown, Candace Carter and Joe Gantt to other boards listed in the packet; Lisa Rafelson and Steve Atkins to the Harrison Township Fire District Board; and others noted in packet pages discussed.

The commissioners also approved appointments to the opioid settlement work group. Administrator Kyle presented nominees: Eric Christiansen to replace Summer Brown as the EMS representative, Kirk Witt to represent the Town of Mooresville (the town has committed $15,000 to the work group), and Dr. Jake Allen to represent the Mooresville School District; Wendy McGrawin was approved as Dr. Allen’s proxy. Commissioners noted proxy rules (proxies may not appoint another proxy) and authorized staff to send appointment letters to the newly named members.

Several appointments were postponed because staff had not confirmed availability; other nominations will return to the next meeting when contact is confirmed.
