Story County supervisors approve routine items, discuss warming place and enter closed session

The Story County Board of Supervisors conducted a compact Jan. 20 meeting that included routine approvals, supervisor updates and a short closed session.

The board approved the agenda, then unanimously approved minutes from the Jan. 13 meeting, personnel actions and the consent agenda after separate motions and roll-call votes. Votes were recorded in the transcript by roll-call responses (for example, Bridal Aye; Beddens Aye; Merkin Aye during the minutes approval sequence).

Supervisors used the liaison and announcements portion of the meeting to list upcoming events and committee assignments. Supervisor Bridal said she will attend Story County Housing Trust meetings, an engineers office meeting and a state early-childhood webinar; other supervisors described committee and webinar schedules.

Members also discussed the county's temporary 'warming place' shelter, noting it has been stood up four nights and had 12 guests the previous night. The presiding supervisor thanked volunteer partners including First United Methodist Church, Romero House, Salvation Army, YSS and Mary Greeley, and invited community members to volunteer for upcoming shifts.

Later in the meeting a supervisor moved to enter closed session citing a statutory provision as read in the transcript; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call and the board went into closed session. The transcript records the citation as "Iowa code section 21.51 c"; the meeting returned to open session and adjourned afterward.

There were no public comments on agenda or non-agenda items during the meeting, and no department reports were made.
