The mayor (unnamed in the transcript) used his communications time at the Dec. 22 meeting to urge caution about treating social media posts as full accounts of city matters and to announce a county-hosted community forum.
“I wanna point out and it's important understand and realize that when someone posts a question or statement on social media, it doesn't mean that the city knows about it,” the mayor said, arguing that posters often do not contact city staff for context before creating a narrative. He added: “Transparency is not just about speed. It's about providing complete and reliable answers and information.”
The mayor described a recent sequence in which a public-records request produced documents that, he said, lacked full context and led to inaccurate conclusions. He also described an employee's use of a leave-of-absence provision in a union contract, saying the employee was granted leave, later sought extension that was denied, and ultimately resigned; the mayor characterized the personnel matter as handled under contract provisions.
The mayor invited residents to a public meeting on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Active Adult Center, which city staff will host with Summit County and the county health department to share updates and resources on Medicaid, SNAP benefits, childcare and JFS best practices.
The mayor closed by thanking council members for their service and wishing the community happy holidays.
